If there is one aspect of photography I've felt I need to work on, it's portraits. This was done yesterday with a friend nearing the final stages of her pregnancy along with her little boy. It was shot in an entirely improvised home studio, consisting of a light and airy glassed-in outer room, a white shower curtain draped in front of the windows backlit by the sun and a single flash. It was my first attempt at maternity pictures. The mother-in-waiting and I quickly discovered it's more complicated to do well than either of us thought it would be to get the right poses, angles and lighting, not to mention full cooperation of a three-year old. This was one of my favorites from the two hour shoot.
(And yet again, apologies again for best of intentions going awry with new postings. I didn't have time to do that project I was hoping to here... Hopefully soon.)

Complicated work but an amazing result. A reduced beauty, a great composition. Love the lines in there, love the light, love the poses. A brilliant photograph, Jim! All the best & safe travels, Fritsch. Fritsch @ May 14, 2010
