The circus that rolled through town last week was a very traditional circus that, with a few exceptions, could have performed the exact same show 50 years ago and not been substantially different. But one of the more unexpected acts was midway through the first half, when they brought out the trained farmyard animals, including two cows. I have never seen a trained cow before. It was only after the fact that it occurred to me that you don't often see trained cows and maybe there is good reason for that. For all I know, this may be the holy grail of performing animals and what we saw an amazing feat that should be more astounding than it seemed at first glance. Or maybe not.
