I was surprised to see one of these outside the neighbourhood pub up the street from where we were staying in Overstrand. I'd thought they were all done away with years ago. (Not to mention just finding a pay phone of any description anywhere is no small order, at least here in Sweden.)
(And yes, I wish it was a cleaner image, without power lines or that street sign on the right. But this was the "cleanest" angle I could shoot it from.)

they are indeed a dying breed. The town where I grew up was famous for having about a dozen all in a row. They've probably all gone. Its a good find. rhys @ June 5, 2009
What a rare find in these cellphone times. A beauty that makes me feel old simply because I somehow miss these analogue times. And I have to say: I kind of like these power lines in there. Thanks for this beauty, Jim. All the best & safe travels, Fritsch. Fritsch @ June 5, 2009
We certainly do still have them here in the UK... I believe they are protected by law and British Telecom has to maintain a certain number of them, mostly in historical cities and rural locations one way photo / Mark @ June 5, 2009
We still got some of our old phone booths in Norway as well, they are getting increasingly hard to find, but those that have remained are now protected by law. I always have to look twice when I come across one... Anyway, nice shot. I like the hard contrast, and what you have done to the colors. :-) -trond- @ June 7, 2009
Wonderful nostalgic capture. Loe this old things. Reiner @ June 23, 2009
I remember seeing them in London last year too.
Paris still has public phones too, although not as nice looking as this one! sophie @ June 29, 2009
