If there is one aspect of photography I've felt I need to work on, it's portraits. This was done yesterday with a friend nearing the final stages of her pregnancy along with her little boy. It was shot in an entirely improvised home studio, consisting of a light and airy glassed-in outer room, a white shower curtain draped in front of the windows backlit by the sun and a single flash. It was my first attempt at maternity pictures. The mother-in-waiting and I quickly discovered it's more complicated to do well than either of us thought it would be to get the right poses, angles and lighting, not to mention full cooperation of a three-year old. This was one of my favorites from the two hour shoot.
(And yet again, apologies again for best of intentions going awry with new postings. I didn't have time to do that project I was hoping to here... Hopefully soon.)

Afternoon sun

While the days are getting longer and spring is almost here, the afternoon sun is still relatively low in the sky up here in Scandinavia. Taken in Lysekil about a week ago on a Sunday afternoon outing with my daughter.
P.S. I am not going to make any silly promises about regularity returning to the blog, but I'm trying to dig myself out to get this going again. The camera has been getting more of a workout recently and I may just try to set myself another little goal/photo project as we come up to the two year anniversary of 365,000 Words.

If there was ever a picture to serve as a testament to why I need a new camera with better low light capabilities, this would be it. The technical quality is, quite frankly, terrible. But it captures a scene last night in bed when our three year old daughter fell asleep with our five month old puppy Ludwig.
(And I also have to apologize for the site being briefly down. Or I pass on an apology from 1and1, the site host. Something happened on the server that hosts the database and the site was down for the better part of today. Many bad things are said about 1and1, but to their credit, they had things fixed and back to normal within two hours of me letting them know.)

365,000 words is not dead (although it's not done a lot to live up to its name the past few months). Life has been busy and the camera has been collecting dust. I'm hoping that will change over the next while.

Taken earlier today, as we took a few pictures of our daughter in her Halloween costume (which, as a princess, is oddly similar to how she dresses at some point most days).

Sorry that October has been a bit of a wash-out, photoblog-wise. I have had little opportunity to get out with the camera at all. But, in lieu of continued nothing, here is: something.
(Hopefully) more to follow soon...
(I'm keeping the original title, even though I am clearly an idiot and the time is 7 o'clock, not 5. I'll stand by the original play on words, even if it's inaccurate.)
